This is probably the most popular definition coined in the USA by the Council of Logistics Management. Logistics is a term that describes the process of planning, implementation and control of an efficient and economically effective flow of raw materials, production materials, finished products and relevant information from the point of origin to the point of consumption, in order to meet customer requirements.

Logistics activities include: customer service, demand forecasting, information flow, inventory control, handling activities, order processing, repairs and supply of spare parts, location of production plants and warehouses, supply processes, packaging, handling of returns, waste management, transport activities, storage, and more.
